The short answer

Decorative flake floors are the most popular residential garage coating we install. Vinyl flakes (chips) broadcast into a wet epoxy base, then sealed with a polyaspartic topcoat. The flake layer hides imperfections, adds texture + slip resistance, and brings color to a space. 16 stocked blends including 12 standard and 4 premium marble. Starting at $5/sq ft with a $1,500 project minimum. 15-year installation warranty.

01 · Why flake

Why Houston property owners choose decorative flake floors.

  • 16 blends + custom. Neutral grays, earth tones, bold blues and greens, and 4 premium marble options. You choose the palette. We build the floor.
  • Natural texture hides dirt and imperfections. Multi-color flake doesn’t show dust, tire marks, or minor stains the way a solid-color floor does. Small concrete imperfections disappear under a full broadcast.
  • Built-in slip resistance. Vinyl flakes create a naturally textured surface with traction even when wet. Essential in Houston garages where rain-soaked vehicles drip water daily.
  • Daily-vehicle durable. The epoxy base bonds to concrete, the flake layer adds thickness and impact resistance, and the polyaspartic topcoat protects against UV, abrasion, and chemicals.
  • Transforms any space. Same system works in garages, laundry rooms, workshops, mudrooms, covered patios, and commercial utility areas. Fastest way to upgrade a concrete space.

02 · How we build it

Our 5-step decorative flake process.

  1. Evaluate the slab

Inspect substrate, check moisture, identify existing coatings. Houston’s humidity means moisture vapor transmission is always a consideration.

  2. Mechanical grind

Diamond grinding to CSP 2–3 profile. Opens the pores for molecular bond. No acid etching.

  3. Repair cracks + divots

Fill cracks, patch divots, bring the slab to a smooth uniform surface ready for coating.

  4. Epoxy base + flake broadcast

100% solids epoxy applied. Flakes broadcast into wet epoxy (full or partial). Once cured, excess loose flake scraped off.

  5. Polyaspartic topcoat

Final layer seals the flake, locks it in, and provides UV + abrasion + chemical resistance. Walk on in 24 hours.

03 · Coverage choice

Full vs. partial broadcast.

Full broadcast (most popular)

Vinyl flakes applied until the entire surface is covered. No base coat visible. Uniform, densely textured finish. Maximum coverage, hides everything underneath, creates a clean finished look. Most residential clients pick this.

Partial broadcast

Fewer flakes applied, so base coat color shows through between chips. Subtle, speckled look with visible space between flakes. Works when you want a lighter texture or when the base coat color is part of the design.

Both produce an equally durable floor. Difference is visual, not structural.

04 · Our palette

Every blend works across every system we install — hybrid, 1-day, or full decorative flake. Pick whichever complements your garage lighting and cabinets. We bring samples to every on-site visit.

06 · FAQ

Decorative flake floor questions.

What colors are available?

16 stocked blends: 12 standard vinyl + 4 premium marble. Standard earth tones, grays, tans, blues, greens, and multi-color combinations. Custom blends available for larger projects. See the full palette.

What’s the difference between full chip and partial chip?

Full chip (full broadcast) covers 100% of the surface. No base coat visible. Dense, uniformly textured finish. Partial chip uses fewer flakes; some base coat color shows through between chips. Both produce an equally durable floor — the choice is purely aesthetic.

Are flake floors slippery?

No. The flake texture creates a naturally slip-resistant surface even when wet. For heavy water exposure (garage entries during Houston rainstorms, pool decks), we can add anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat for extra traction.

Can flake floors be used outside?

Yes on covered patios, breezeways, and other protected outdoor areas. The polyaspartic topcoat is UV-stable. For fully exposed outdoor areas we evaluate drainage, sun exposure, and moisture before confirming the system is appropriate.

How long do decorative flake floors last?

15+ years with proper install. The multi-layer system (epoxy base + embedded flake + polyaspartic topcoat) is engineered for long-term performance. 15-year installation warranty backs every install.
